CONCEPT AND CONTEXT
Over the course of one year we will drop thousands of “fortunes” printed on rice paper onto Manhattan’s Financial District
Every month a series of confetti cannons will launch the fortunes, printed on green and gold paper, into the air to rain down on the pedestrians below.
WHY?
This project is an act of optimism and generosity while playing with the ideas about:
FORTUNES -- printed, predicted, or earned
FINANCES -- geographical references, superstitions in the industry, the visualization of falling currency (green and gold paper)
GEO-POLITICAL FORCES -- globalization, contemplating China’s industrial revolution, our response to and thoughts about 9/11.
LOCATION
1000 confetti cannons will be secured and launched from the roofs of selected buildings between Exchange Place, Lower Broadway, Pearl Street and Maiden Lane.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
This project would provide a great opportunity to promote the financial district as a cultural destination. The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council could be a funding partner (www.lmcc.net)
Cannons would be hand-held and launchers would ideally be employees in the financial district, perhaps of the sponsoring corporation.
